The corporate media in the United States are ignoring valid news stories, based on university-quality research. It appears that certain topics are simply forbidden inside the mainstream corporate media today. To openly cover these news stories would stir up questions regarding “inconvenient truths” that many in the US power structure want to avoid.

For example, current research indicates that public schools in the United States are more segregated today than they have been in more than four decades. According to a new Civil Rights report, published at the University of California, Los Angeles, schools in the US are 44 percent non-white, and minorities are rapidly emerging as the majority of public school students in the US.  Latinos and blacks, the two largest minority groups, attend schools more segregated today than during the civil rights movement forty years ago. Millions of non-white students are locked into “dropout factory” high schools, where huge percentages do not graduate. The most severe segregation in public schools occurs in the Western states, including California—not in the South, as many people believe. Most non-white schools are segregated by poverty as well as race. Schools in low-income communities remain highly unequal in terms of funding, qualified teachers, and curriculum.

Other taboo stories include civilian death rates in Iraq and questions on 9/11. Researchers from Johns Hopkins University and a professional survey company in Great Britain, Opinion Research Business (ORB) report that the United States is directly responsible for over one million Iraqi deaths since our invasion six and half years ago.  In a January 2008 report, ORB reported that,  “survey work confirms our earlier estimate that over 1,000,000 Iraqi citizens have died as a result of the conflict which started in 2003…. We now estimate that the death toll between March 2003 and August 2007 is likely to have been of the order of 1,033,000.” A 2006 Johns Hopkins study confirmed that US aerial bombing in civilian neighborhoods caused over a third of these deaths and that over half the deaths are directly attributable to US forces. Iraqi civilian death levels in the summer of 2009 likely now exceed 1.2 million.

Former Brigham Young University physics professor Dr. Steven E. Jones and some 700 scientific professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, and physics have now concluded that the official explanation for the collapse of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings is implausible according to laws of physics. Especially troubling is the collapse of WTC 7, a forty-seven-story building that was not hit by planes, yet dropped in its own “footprint” in 6.6 seconds in the same manner as a controlled demolition. To support this theory, Jones and eight other scientists conducted chemical research on the dust from the World Trade centers. Their research results were published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal Open Chemical Physics Journal, Volume 2, 2009. The authors write, “We have discovered distinctive red/gray chips in all the samples. The properties of these chips were analyzed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermitic material and highly energetic.” Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of a metal powder and a metal oxide, which produces an aluminothermic reaction known as a thermite reaction and is used in controlled demolitions of buildings.

Each of these taboo news stories is based on solid scholarly research. These stories represent the failure of the corporate media in the US to keep the American people democratically informed on important issues.  This lack of coverage of critical and potentially political news stories is what many thousands of people in the US are now calling a Truth Emergency. Political activists at all levels must support full news transparency as an important component of building a non-exploitative world based on democracy, truthfulness, and human rights.

Nicholas Kafouris says he was forced out after highlighting the rise in racism among pupils at Bigland Green Primary school in East London

A teacher claims he has been sacked for reprimanding pupils who made racist remarks about his being a Christian.

Nicholas Kafouris said he lost his £30,000-a-year post because he would not tolerate the ‘openly racist’ behaviour of pupils as young as eight.

He said the predominantly Muslim youngsters openly praised Islamic extremists in class, and hailed the September 11 terrorists as ‘heroes and martyrs’.

Greek-born Mr Kafouris, 40, taught for more than ten years at Bigland Green Primary in Tower Hamlets, East London, where according to the most recent Ofsted report ‘almost all’ the 465 pupils are from ethnic minorities and a vast proportion do not speak English as a first language.

He is taking the school, its headmistress and assistant head to an employment tribunal where he will claim he was forced out after highlighting the rise in racism among pupils.

In 2006, said Mr Kafouris, he brushed against a boy while giving him a book.

‘He said rather brusquely to me, “Don’t touch me, you’re a Christian”. I found this very offensive.’

Later that year, he said children aged eight and nine in his class praised the suicide bombers in the 9/11 attacks.

‘In late November and December 2006, many various unacceptable and openly racist, anti-Semitic and anti-Christian remarks were being made by many and various children in Year 4,’ he said.

‘These included, “We want to be Islamic bombers when we grow up”, “the Twin Towers bombers are heroes and martyrs”, “we hate the Jews” and “we hate the Christians”.’

And in January 2007, he claims some pupils ‘expressed delight’ that a child had died when a wall collapsed on him in London.

When asked why, he said one of the children replied: ‘Because he’s English.’ The following month, during a religious education lesson about Jonah and the whale, he claims one of the pupils asked if Jonah was a Jew, before shouting: ‘I hate the Jews, they’re our enemies.’

Mr Kafouris says he completed ‘Racist Incident Reporting Sheets’ and notified headmistress Jill Hankey in writing about each incident.

But he claims his concerns were ignored because she wanted to maintain the school’s ‘good’ Ofsted rating.

Mr Kafouris, who is unmarried and has no children, was also reprimanded for handling a discussion about religion with a child ‘inappropriately’, which he denies.

He says assistant head Margaret Coleman accused him of shouting at pupils and telling them Muslims had produced suicide bombers – claims he rejects.

‘I believe after I complained to the head about the racist and religious discrimination incidents, I suffered victimisation,’ he says.

‘I also suffered less favourable treatment and incurred harassment by the head and assistant head.

‘The two people above created an intimidating, hostile, degrading, threatening, humiliating and offensive environment for me at my work.’

Mr Kafouris says the way he was treated brought on stress and depression, and that he was forced to take time off work. He was finally dismissed because of his absence, on April 30 this year.

A spokesman for Tower Hamlets Council, on behalf of the school, said: ‘The governing body stands by its decision and we believe all the correct procedures were followed.’

It is, far more than the letter of the law, and far more than Hussein Obongo’s recalcitrance. It is the spirit behind the Constitutional requirement that is being raped here: 1) that the president be not only obviously a US citizen but 2) also be born on American soil in all that that implies.

That implies our president should be a man or woman who is imbued with Americanism, and identifies with just one country, OURS, not Kenya or the Third World, nor just with his black homies and the angry-leftist-minority-queer coalition of white-male-haters such as Latina In-Justice Sotomayor.

This crowd gets it. This crowd presages stormy developments.

ALLIED CIVILIAN KILLERS

In this issue’s continuing series of translations by Margaret Huffstickler from Joaquin Bochaca’s Spanish-language history, The Crimes of the Good Guys, the pithy Catalan exposes how the Allies treated German and Italian civilians they were “liberating.” As the saying goes, you know a man’s character by how he treats people once they are at his mercy….. Helplessness can trigger in the psychopath what the Germans call the inner Schweinehund.

When the Russians invaded Germany and other countries of Eastern Europe that had been allied with Germany against communism, an apocalyptic orgy was unleashed against the civilian population.

As head of Soviet propaganda, Ilya Ehrenburg had for years worked on the task of poisoning the soldiers’ minds. He had pounded and pounded into the heads of the fanatical Bolshevik masses the idea that all Germans were criminals, and that German women should be considered war booty.

All the internal restraints — what is known as Natural Law — which even the most benighted individual carries in the bottom of his soul, had been lulled to sleep by this incessant propaganda, which was sufficient to silence all scruples. In addition, the Red Army’s senior commanders such as General Zhukov and his colleague Rokossovsky encouraged through their orders the implementation of that propaganda.

Here is what the German Juergen Thorwald wrote:[footnote1: Thorwald, Juergen, Es begann an der Weichsel, (It Began at the Vistula [River]), 1948. Juergen Thorwald (1915-2006) wrote extensively on forensic medicine and World War II. His book The Century of the Detective was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1966 in Best Fact Crime category but lost to Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.]

Every conquered town and village became an unspeakable hell. The elderly were killed with rifle butts because they had a son in the SS; civilians killed with a shot to the neck before their families; civilians requisitioned like beasts and used to carry munitions, or hurled in front of the German lines to detonate mines by stepping on them.

Girls of 12 years and women as old as 70 were outraged publicly and en masse; children were crying and screaming in horror at being forced to witness the torture of their mothers; there was looting of food and clothing; half-naked women were abandoned on the road to die slowly of cold and loss of blood. All that had been feared coming from the East was monstrously exceeded by hellish reality. Groups of terrorized civilians began to flee toward the rear. Soviet tanks, at times, caught up with them and had fun shooting at unarmed targets and then emerging to fall upon the women. There were cases in which they did not even respect dead women.

In the confusion of escape, aggravated by the attacks of low-flying Soviet aircraft, there were Dante-sque scenes. There were even convoys of Allied POWs – French, English or Russians — that voluntarily fled the Soviet advance, though the Soviets were their “allies.”[footnote2: op.cit.]Bochaca gives no page no.]] The RAF and U.S. Army Air Force also participated in attacks on convoys of civilian refugees. But the Allies’ usual record of horror was exceeded during the encirclement of East Prussia. The city of Gumbinnen was captured by the Soviets, but was recovered by a Wehrmacht counterattack the next day.[footnote3: The Soviets bombed Gumbinnen with 500 planes on October 16, 1944 and entered the two-thirds destroyed city on the 20^th. Interestingly, back in 1914, at the beginning of the previous world war, the Imperial Russian general Alexander Samsonov had beaten a German army at Gumbinnen, but this defeat led to the quick reactivation of retired German general Paul von Hindenburg (then 67), who encircled and annihilated two Russian armies – disgracing the two feuding Russian generals, Samsonov and Rennenkampf – in nearby Tannenberg. Nobel Laureate Alexander Solzhenitsyn analyzed and condemned this Russian military disaster in his August 1914.] What happened at Gumbinnen in less than 24 hours defies description. Author Louis Marschalko limits himself to telling us that German women were crucified on the doors of their houses, others were hanged, upside down, from tree branches, and one German woman had her belly slit open, and she was hanged from a branch by her own intestines. Elderly men were castrated; girls were raped with bayonets, fires were set everywhere; babies were impaled, and even pets had their throats slit, something that not even Dante could imagine when describing Hell.[footnote4: Marschalko, Louis: The World Conquerors, 1958, republished by Christian Book Club, 1978, p134.]

sUpon learning about Gumbinnen’s fate, the civilian population was seized with panic. Nobody wanted to stay in their homes when the Wehrmacht withdrew. The French Waffen-SS Battalion “Charlemagne” saved 5,000 civilians by managing to break out of the Russian encirclement for several hours — an operation in which a few brave French saved the honor of their homeland – which other French had sullied in Stuttgart, Germany, where innumerable abuses were committed against the civilian population. (See below.)

Caption: “You too! Your comrades await you in the French division of the Waffen-SS.” Volunteer Christian de la Maizière wrote after the war that he had learned more at Waffen-SS artillery school in three weeks than in three years in the French Army. The French Charlemagne Division SS were the last defenders of Hitler’s bunker, fighting there until May 2, 1945, just to prevent the Russians from capturing the bunker on May Day, which is Labor Day in Europe.

As East Prussia remained encircled, the remnants of the German merchant navy dedicated themselves tirelessly to evacuating civilians. They succeeded in transporting almost a million and a half refugees to the rest of Germany, but had to pay the tribute of heavy suffering and losses. The Soviet Baltic fleet, which had remained hidden during the war in the bay of Leningrad, emerged from its hiding place and in the last days of the war was able to take advantage of the easy targets that were offered by civilian transport ships.

The “Wilhelm Gustloff” was torpedoed at night by a Russian submarine, and of its 10,300 passengers only 950 could be rescued from the chilly waters of the Baltic.[footnote5: The cruise ship Wilhelm Gustloff was part of the Third Reich's “Strength Through Joy” program, designed to give vacations in the fjords of Norway or in Portugal to working-class people, some of whom had literally never gone anywhere on vacation in their entire lives. The vessel was named after a German official and National Socialist party leader who was murdered in Switzerland in 1936 by a Jew named David Frankfurter. The ship was torpedoed on January 30, 1945.]

The “General Steuben,” which sailed from Koenigsberg with 2,000 wounded soldiers and 1,000 children, was hit by a Russian torpedo and its bow sank almost immediately into the water. There was tremendous panic on deck, with all the survivors crowded into the bow. Then, when the ship began to go up at the bow, and the chaos and confusion spread, many children and adults slid across the deck into the water or fell on the propellers.

Some men who carried pistols committed suicide, while the ship’s captain died of a heart attack. Meanwhile, the 2,000 wounded were trying to climb onto the deck when the boat was hit by a second torpedo. As it quickly sank, the two thousand cries of those trapped in the interior stopped suddenly as if cut by a single terrible chop of a knife, while, as the ship disappeared it created such a vertiginous whirlpool that it sucked down the few survivors who were swimming around it. Of the 3,000 people who left Koenigsberg only 11 were saved.[footnote6: When it became apparent that the ship was doomed, one female survivor remembers hearing the sound of "popcorn popping." After walking down the hallway where the sound was coming from, she realized to her horror that she was hearing the sound of wounded German officers committing suicide with their pistols. One told her they did not want to take the lifeboat space from the women and children.--Ed. From Koburger, Charles W., Steel Ships, Iron Crosses, and Refugees, Praeger Publishers, NY, 1989, p.7 ]

Something similar happened to the troop carrier “Goya” with 7,000 refugees, of whom only 170 were saved. Meanwhile the Western allies, upon becoming aware of these evacuations, dropped mines from the air into the harbors of Kiel, Lubeck and Stettin to prevent such evacuations from continuing.

Thorwald collected testimony from a German Wehrmacht official, Paul Scholtis, who, beside himself, told him:

“We were wrong. Hitler was right! [Gauleiter] Koch was right! Everyone was right who wanted to treat the Bolsheviks as they deserved! If we had not left one alive they would not be here to rape, kill and destroy. Against the Bolsheviks there is no room for a humanitarian policy; it is matter of life and death for the civilized countries. The one that exterminates the other first and best will win. Hitler understood this – and we who had scruples of conscience, and sometimes sabotaged his orders or neglected to execute them, did not understood the necessity of the moment.”[footnote7: This probably refers to Hitler's "Commissar Order,” according to which any captured communist party commissar attached to the Red Army was to be executed. (Author's note)]

“Have you seen the children with their chests blown apart in Neutief?[footnote8: Luftwaffe base and village on the Baltic, located on the Nehrung reef in East Prussia.-Ed.] Have you seen the women who could barely crawl, raped 40 times? And the 12 year-old girls bleeding from their violated bodies? How terribly noble these Pharisees of London and New York pretend to be! “Fighting for Humanity and Justice”! How noble that sounds! And then they ally themselves with a continent of beasts! In a very few years they will realize their stupidity, when the s— is up to their necks! Then they’ll wake up with a start. Civilized people will finally understand their own political history and condemn it, but by then it will be far too late.”[footnote9: Thorwald, op. cit.]

In the West the treatment of civilians was incomparably better but far inferior to that which the occupying Germans had previously accorded to the civilians of France, Belgium, etc.

It is worth noting the excesses committed in the city of Stuttgart by the French troops of General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny. The city had been occupied by the Americans, but the French arrived to take over as occupiers while Patton’s men continued fighting. Mass rape and a couple of hundred murders were perpetrated, all with impunity. All of them were presided over by a general who claimed to be a Catholic and went to Mass every day. The Stuttgart affair is described in detail by the American Charles Lincoln, who fought in his country’s army — which, according to him, did not behave much better than the French in Stuttgart.[footnote10: Lincoln, Charles: By Order of the Military Government. [Paul/Willis: I could not find any reference to this book or author.]] De Lattre de Tassigny lost his only son in the Indochina War — which he had been waging successfully until then for France, returned home and died thereafter of cancer. The French then lost the Indochina war to Ho Chi Minh’s communists.]

French General (later Marshall) Alphonse Juin, who also went to Mass, promised his Moroccan troops, on a certain occasion, that if they succeeded in breaking the front line east of Monte Cassino, in Italy, they would have 24 hours of leave to do whatever they wanted with the civilian population. Juin fulfilled his promise. There were 500 rape victims from his Moroccan goumiers, including the patients at a mental hospital.[footnote11: Establishment sources in France and the English-speaking world never mention this unbelievable war crime, but the Italian people know about it and are still outraged. A 1960 Sophia Loren film, “Two Women,” explores this horror.]

On Bastille Day (July 14) of the year 1952 this hero was made a “Marshal of France,” and in November of that year he was elected to the elite literary Académie Française.

Sophia Loren and American-Italian actress Eleonora Brown play a widow and her daughter who are ravaged by French Moroccan colonial troops commanded, and unleashed on them, by French forces. (Loren won as best actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1960 and an Oscar at the Academy Awards in 1961 for her performance in this film, which Robert Osborne of Turner Classic Movies says was perhaps her greatest role.) Wikipedia’s article online claims blithely that General Juin “was also very firm in bringing the wild Moroccan irregulars, the goumiers, back under discipline and control after several excesses of mass rapine and pillage” — excesses that he himself had offered as a reward.
